The History of the Hundred Years War

By: Oscar Cruz

How it Started:

In 1337 CE, war is declared against France and England. This war against the two kingdoms would rage on for 116 years, the war wouldn’t end until 1453 CE. That was the hundred year war. France lost lots of its own territory to England. This resulted in bad blood between England and France. The war had a massive impact on medieval Europe that changed a lot of its aspects. Lots of new technology is made during a war like Tanks in WWI or Computers for WWII.

The Technology of the War

The war introduced many advancements in the 14th Century like the creation of Gunpowder which was primarily used in cannons made during the Time. During the war, there were 56 battles, Many included the first naval battles involving cannons. In 1340, The Battle of Sluys started the war off

with British ships and sunk various French ships that were fighting against the British ships, the British would use everything they had to claim their territory back from the French, the original owners of the land. The Second and major battle of the War was called The Battle of Crecy. In 1346 the battle took place in Normandy, one of England’s original territories that the French retook from the Brits.

The War and the After-effects

About 10,000 Men fought for the British force and Edward III was there as well. The Brits were stationed in Normandy and were preparing for battle until the next day but the French tried to initiate a surprise attack, luckily the British forces were able to prevailed the attacks. 15 French attacks towards the British forces later and the French would surrender, Britain claimed back Normandy territory once again. Later The Battle of Calais happened, The French tried with all their might to protect the land from the British army but they were so much stronger the french retreated a year later and Britain claimed the victory of Crecy. Just like how the Olympics interrupted WWII, The Black Plague interrupt The 100 years war. The Plague made a third of European people go six feet underground, Britain and France were heavily affected from the french. Once the Black Plague came and went, The war would continue on. After the black plague killed lots of Europe and many decades later the war would be over and surprisingly the French would win. The French still had bad blood against the British for that whole ordeal so in 1781 the french assisted the revolting american colonies that were battling the British and their tyranny rule.

The article is a little dry and is missing a photo. Editors should have caught this before it was published. It would look better with intentions but everything else is fine. Article has good information though.

Very detailed article and educated me well. I enjoyed learning about the Hundred Years War. You'd be a good comic book writer.
